Kanu called Ahmad’s remark hurtful and defamatory. Ahmad had previously declared that anyone calling for Kanu’s release is an enemy of Nigeria. “Anyone who supports the release of Nnamdi Kanu, a terrorist and the leader of the banned terrorist group IPOB, should be regarded as a sworn enemy of this country,” Ahmad had written on X.
Kanu, who is upset with Ahmad’s comment, has asked the former presidential assistant for N100 billion in damages. Kanu sought an apology within the next forty-two days in a lawsuit filed on Tuesday by his Lead Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor. According to the original summons, “You are hereby commanded to cause an appearance to be entered for you in an action at the suit of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu within forty-two (42) days after this writ is served upon you, including the day of such services.”
“AND TAKE NOTE that the Plaintiff may proceed in your absence and judgment may be rendered if you fail to do so.” A DECLARATION by this Honorable Court that the Defendant’s published assertions or utterances to the effect that the Claimant is a terrorist, as published in the aforementioned X App (previously Twitter), Talkofnaija.com, and phoenix-browser.com, are libelous and defamatory is one of the reliefs that Kanu is seeking.
An order from this Honorable Court instructing the Defendant to remove the aforementioned X App (previously Twitter), Talkofnaija.com, and phoenix-browser.com publications from the same media, namely the Defendant’s X account. An order issued by this Honorable Court instructing the Defendant to draft and present an unconditional letter of apology to the Claimant. Three (3) national dailies—the Sun, Daily Trust, and Guardian—will boldly and conspicuously publish the letter of apology on its full page.
An order of perpetual injunction prohibiting the defendant from using the aforementioned libelous and defamatory language about the claimant in the future. The Honorable Court has issued an order compelling the Defendant to provide the Claimant with general and exemplary damages in the amount of N100,000,000,000.00 (one hundred billion naira alone). The Honorable Court has issued an order mandating that the Defendant cover the costs of this lawsuit.And any additional order or orders that this Honorable Court may think appropriate and necessary under the circumstances.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
