This was revealed by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, who clarified that the course, which will be required for Christians in public schools, would foster in the kids a greater fear of God. This was revealed by Governor Bago at the Government House in Minna when he hosted a Christian community delegation headed by Hon. Affiniki Dauda, the deputy speaker of the state house of assembly.
The governor’s acceptance of the subject’s reintroduction comes after several Christian organizations voiced their concerns about the need of religious education for young children. It was learned that the topic was discontinued in public schools around 20 years ago, and several organizations have presented the necessity to bring it back to the government.
As a result, the Governor, who eventually approved the request, noted that societal vice had supplanted morals and family values, leading to moral decay and the necessity of teaching religious knowledge. According to him, the only way to restore family values and instill a fear of God in the next generation is to turn to God and His teachings. The government, parents, religious leaders, and other pertinent stakeholders would need to make intentional and coordinated efforts to accomplish this, he said.
As peace gradually returns to the Holy Land, the former governor also utilized the occasion to announce that the State administration will be represented in this year’s Christian pilgrimage to Israel. Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Yohanna, the CAN Chairman, Niger State Chapter, who was represented by Rev. Fr.
