Chelle, who was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on November 11, 1977, played defense for well-known French teams including Istres, Lens, and Valenciennes. Vanguard claims that he developed a reputation for poise as a result of his leadership on the field, which he carried over into his coaching career.
After retiring as a player, Chelle transitioned into management, honing his skills at clubs like FC Martigues and US Boulogne.
His most notable managerial position came when he was appointed head coach of the Mali national team in 2022.
Under his guidance, Mali reached the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, showcasing his tactical acumen.
However, his tenure was cut short in June 2024 due to underperformance in FIFA World Cup qualifiers, despite some strong tournament results.
Now, with Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Chelle is tasked with reviving the team’s fortunes.
