In a concerted and lethal attack on a town in southern Burkina Faso, suspected terrorists connected to Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin, or JNIM, have taken control. On January 23, 2025, the attack took place. According to Makama, the group overran local fortifications by using overwhelming numbers, well-coordinated tactics, and strong fire support, as evidenced by witness statements and newly available photos from the area.
