President Bola Tinubu allegedly made an agreement with the family of Nnamdi Kanu, the imprisoned leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to free the Biafra agitator. In a recent statement, Kanunta disclosed that he had met with Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Tinubu, to talk about Nnamdi Kanu’s release. Kanunta claimed that the meeting, which was approved by the president, set the stage for an agreement to free Kanu in return for IPOB not interfering in the election.
In her opening statement, Kanunta said, “I got a message from an ex-governor before the last election that Seyi, the son of President Tinubu, wanted to see me.” “My brother’s release will be the top priority and, therefore, the focal point of our conversation,” I said when I agreed to meet with him.
An impartial witness who might confirm the conversations was present at the Abuja meeting. Kanunta stressed that Seyi affirmed during the negotiations that his father supported the agreement. “I should consider any agreement we reach as binding on the then candidate, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Kanunta said, adding that Seyi had confirmed to him that his father had approved the meeting.
In addition, Kanunta disclosed that the agreement was unambiguous: in return for Kanu’s release, IPOB agreed not to interfere with the elections by boycotting or participating in any other type of protest. Kanunta clarified, “In good faith, we agreed that I shall relay the outcome to my brother in order to reinforce the long-standing tradition of IPOB staying out of the way of elections.”
In addition, he pointed out that Kanu has reaffirmed his pledge to uphold this accord and to refrain from calling for an electoral boycott. “My brother was properly informed of this understanding, and he reiterated his pledge to not halt the elections or impose any boycott,” Kanunta stated.
During his campaign, President Tinubu likewise made a public pledge, Kanunta noted. Tinubu reaffirmed his pledge to help arrange Kanu’s release if elected during his visit to Owerri. “President Tinubu also reaffirmed his pledge to support my brother’s release if elected when he visited Owerri as a candidate,” Kanunta remembered.
Given that Kanu is still being held in custody almost two years after President Tinubu took office, Kanunta voiced concern that the deal has not been upheld despite the commitments made. He bemoaned the protracted wait, saying, “Judice Binta Nyako has been recusing herself from the case for more than three months, and no new judge has been assigned the case.”CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
