In a statement released on Sunday, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Deputy President General Okechukwu Isiguzoro warned that the Igbo community should not be associated with the murder of 16 hunters in Uromi, Edo State, claiming that the Igbos are not involved in the incident.
However, Isiguzoro urged all leaders and groups to do well by informing their people, especially the youths, that Uromi is in Edo, a state in the South-South Region of Nigeria. Additionally, the Northern Elders Forum has issued an ultimatum to Edo State to compensate victims of the mob action.
Isiguzoro said attempts to falsely associate the incident with people of Igbo descent are concerning and also condemned the heinous act. Ohanaeze Ndigbo strongly warns against any retaliation against Igbo people or communities in the Northern area in light of these incidents. Their killing has continued to create indignation with the president ordering quick arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of the murder.
“We urge these leaders to take decisive action in educating and informing their communities, especially the impressionable youth, that Uromi, located in the Esan North Local Government Area of Edo State, is neither part of Igboland nor associated with the Igbo people,” he stated. “Uromi residents should not be mistakenly labeled as Igbo because they are primarily Esan ethnic.
“It is imperative that we collectively condemn violence in all its forms, irrespective of the ethnic identities involved,” Isiguzoro said, adding that “we stand in solidarity with Northern leaders and the grieving families of the victims, mourning their loss with sincerity and compassion.” He urged all levels of government and pertinent agencies to step up and make sure they reduce the tension among residents.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
