Trump stated in a Truth Social post that “any farmer (with family!) from South Africa who wishes to leave that country for safety reasons will be invited into the United States of America with a rapid pathway to Citizenship.” In response, South Africa declared that it will not use “megaphone diplomacy” with the president of the United States.
South Africa was “not going to partake in a counterproductive megaphone diplomacy,” Vincent Magwenya, the spokesperson for South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, said Reuters when asked about Trump’s comments. South Africa, meanwhile, has already claimed that Trump has misinterpreted the nation’s recently passed land expropriation law.
