Prophet Adetula, aged 54, was attacked and killed during a Sunday morning service at the church located along Old Baggage Road, Odo Eran. The state police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the tragic incident in a statement seen by PUNCH Online
According to Odutola, officers responding to a distress call found the pastor lying face down in a pool of blood. His white Celestial garment was heavily stained, and his body showed evidence of gunshot wounds and brutal assault with an axe.
Witnesses reported that the attackers entered the church armed with double-barrelled shotguns, creating chaos among worshippers. The gunmen targeted the pastor, firing multiple shots before fleeing towards the border area to evade capture.
The police have launched an investigation into the murder, with efforts underway to track down the fleeing suspects. A reliable source from the Ogun State Social Orientation and Safety Corps revealed that Prophet Adetula was a senior officer within the corps and a key witness in an ongoing legal case involving a suspect.
The source speculated that the killing might be connected to the victim’s role in the litigation. However, no official statement has confirmed this theory.
This incident echoes a 2023 attack on the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Abule-Ori, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, where gunmen killed a pastor and abducted seven worshippers during a vigil service.
