Pa Tajudeen, the younger brother to the late COAS’s father, made the poignant remarks during an interview with The Nation.

Reflecting on the painful loss, he shared that he would never have obtained the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) form for Lagbaja had he known that it would eventually lead to his early death.

According to Pa Tajudeen, “Everyone who is born must die. We give glory to God. The year that I obtained the NDA form for him, if I had known that he would die before me, I would not have done so. I regret obtaining the form for him. But it is destiny.”

The elder Lagbaja family member spoke with deep sorrow, describing the immense loss that his family has endured.

“The death that killed Taoreed Lagbaja ought to take me. I took him as one of my children. We are greatly bereaved, we are sad,” he said, his voice tinged with grief.

Pa Tajudeen also recalled some of the late COAS’s contributions to the community, including the construction of a borehole in his father’s compound and other areas.

“We can never forget him, his death is so shocking to us,” he added.
