In an interview during a media chat on TVC News, Wike suggested that some governors are not effectively utilizing party resources, leading to a decline in the party’s influence in certain states. He particularly pointed to Anambra and Enugu, questioning the strategic decisions made by party leaders in these areas.
He emphasized that true leadership requires sacrifices and a commitment to strengthening the party rather than focusing solely on political positions. He expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of PDP in some regions, especially where party structures appear weak.
“The governors have the money, but they’re not doing it well. Are they spending the money on the party? No, they are not,” Wike said. “Look at the Enugu governor; he wants to be the leader of the South East. I agree with that, but as a leader, you must play the game and make sacrifices. Today in Anambra, nobody in PDP collected a form to run as governor. You cannot bring somebody in Anambra to run for election and tell me you are the leader of PDP. All you’re interested in is zonal congress.”
