Murray-Bruce, who has known Akpabio “personally and intimately,” staunchly dismissed the recent allegations against the Senate President, which include claims of sexual harassment and bribery. He described Akpabio as “a man of unimpeachable good character,” affirming that both the South-South region and Nigeria at large are fortunate to have him guiding the National Assembly during this critical phase of national development.

These allegations surfaced prominently when Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Akpabio of sexual misconduct. Furthermore, additional claims suggest that Akpabio may have attempted to bribe senators to facilitate the passage of emergency rule in Rivers State. Despite these serious accusations, Murray-Bruce has strongly defended Akpabio, insisting that he has nothing to conceal. As he pointed out, “On the issue of corruption, here we have a man who has been investigated in and out by independent investigative agencies and friends and foes alike, yet he has come out clean as a whistle.”

Murray-Bruce’s defense extends beyond personal loyalty; he has also warned against the dangers of politicizing institutions. He urged Nigerians to recognize the importance of stability at this turbulent time, stating, “Nigeria needs stability and men of ability, and it behoves us as a nation to tread with caution at this critical time of our national life.” He emphasized that institutions such as the Legislature should not be undermined for partisan gains.

The former senator made it clear that he will not passively observe what he perceives as attacks on the Senate’s reputation. “I will not stand idly by while some persons try, both home and abroad, to destroy an institution I was once proudly a part of,” he declared fervently. His loyalty to Akpabio was further reinforced as he stated, “I give him my right hand of fellowship and stand firmly with him. Innuendo, hearsay, and dog whistles will always come. But they can never be so powerful that they will take preeminence over facts.”

As the political climate remains tense with ongoing scrutiny of Akpabio, the unfolding events will be closely monitored by both supporters and critics alike. Murray-Bruce’s emphatic backing serves as a reminder of the importance of integrity and due process in addressing allegations, urging the public to resist the allure of speculation and focus on verified truths.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
