Caleb Mutfwang, the governor of Plateau State, confirmed his passing Thursday evening in a statement sent by Gyang Bere, his director of press and public affairs.
Useni’s death was a great loss to his family, the Nigerian Armed Forces, Plateau State, and the country, according to Governor Mutfwang. He emphasized Useni’s outstanding leadership, dedication to duty, and ceaseless efforts to advance peace and security, especially in Plateau State and Northern Nigeria. Part of the announcement said, “Caleb Mutfwang, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, regrets to inform the people of Plateau State and all patriotic Nigerians of the former minister’s passing. The late General’s distinguished career, which included serving Nigeria as Minister of Transportation, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, was recalled by Governor Mutfwang.
Following his military retirement, General Useni entered politics and carried on serving the country. After serving as the deputy chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), he was elected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015 to represent the Plateau South Senatorial District as a senator.
In praising General Useni’s life of selfless service, the governor highlighted his significant contributions to the community, politics, and military. He stressed that individuals who were impacted by the General will carry on his legacy of love, generosity, compassion, and commitment to the welfare of others.
“I offer my sincere condolences to the President, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the immediate family, and everyone grieving the loss of this great elder statesman on behalf of my family, the government, and the peace-loving citizens of Plateau State,” Governor Mutfwang stated.
