The senator’s helicopter arrival, which stunned the waiting crowd that had gathered in front of her Ihima country estate since the morning, was a spectacular change of events. Ahead of her homecoming, the fans disregarded police warnings and a curfew issued by Amoka Monday, the chairman of the Okehi Local Government Area, while holding signs and chanting in sympathy.Security forces raised tensions when the Kogi State Government banned public meetings on Monday, citing possible unrest.
Nevertheless, the senator refused to back down, claiming she had every right to go to her homeland.Akpoti-Uduaghan had previously used social media to issue a harsh warning, saying that if violence broke out during her Sallah celebrations, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, and former Governor Yahaya Bello should be held accountable. Speaking in her native Egbira to the applauding audience, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan brushed off attempts to intimidate her and reaffirmed her dedication to her people.
She said, “This is my home; this is my town. Nobody can stop me from coming home. I am the daughter of the late Dr. Abdul Akpoti.
