The Ijaw people’s revered traditional institution, the Supreme Egbesu Assembly (SEA), has reacted to recent remarks made by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike on the potential impeachment of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Werinipre Noel Digifa, the SEA Chairman, acknowledged that while the Ijaw community may not support the impeachment, they would accept the outcome with grace.
“If they impeach Fubara, we will take everything in good faith. Ijaw people don’t believe in violence,” Digifa said.

Despite this, he issued a stern warning, signaling that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would be shocked by the aftermath of such an impeachment.
Reacting to Wike’s recent declaration that “heaven will not fall” if Fubara is impeached, Digifa appeared to agree with the sentiment but hinted at a calculated response from the Ijaw people.
Digifa also took aim at President Tinubu, accusing him of failing to control Wike’s actions, which the Ijaw group sees as reckless and damaging to their community.
He alleged that Wike had manipulated the judiciary to further his personal and political goals, particularly in preempting a Supreme Court ruling that ultimately aligned with his expectations.
“Tinubu should be held responsible for Wike’s actions. He has turned the judiciary into his personal estate, manipulating it to suit his desires.,” Digifa criticized.
The SEA’s statement comes after the Supreme Court had previously upheld a Federal High Court ruling that prohibits the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant-General of the Federation from releasing statutory monthly allocations to Rivers State.
