An aide to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Mr. Fred Oghenesivbe, has claimed that Senator Ned Nwoko’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party was motivated by his fear of losing the party’s ticket for the 2027 election.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
According to Oghenesivbe, Nwoko, who represents Delta North in the Senate, has misrepresented the PDP at the national level, become disconnected from the party in the state, and fears he may not secure the PDP ticket for the 2027 election.
Nwoko officially announced his exit from the PDP on Friday through a resignation letter addressed to the Ward 8 Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government Area in Delta State.
In his letter, Nwoko cited “deep divisions and factionalisation” within the party as reasons for his decision.
However, Oghenesivbe, who serves as the Director General of the Delta State Orientation and Communication Bureau, responded to the defection on Sunday, asserting that Nwoko’s move was more about securing a 2027 candidacy than any internal party divisions.
“We all knew it was only a matter of time before he defected. This is about the politics of 2027 and his chances of securing the ticket to run,” Oghenesivbe stated.
He further explained that Nwoko had become increasingly disconnected from the PDP structure in Delta, adding,
“As of today, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is the leader of the PDP in Delta State, and Senator Nwoko has not been aligning with the governor or working closely with PDP leaders in the state.
“Nwoko is understandably concerned that he might not receive the PDP ticket for 2027, as his actions have not represented the party well at the national level.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
