Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s recently elected factional President General, Jackson Omenazu, has sworn to do all it takes to ensure Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s liberation.
According to Omenazu, Kanu’s release is necessary for the peace to return to Igbo territory. “I stand resolutely prepared to exchange my freedom, my liberty, and, if need be, my very life, in pursuit of the release of our brother, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” Omenazu stated in a statement he personally signed on Wednesday.
He emphasized that Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leading sociocultural group of more than 80 million Igbo people worldwide, was steadfast in its resolve to pursue every possible path to ensure Kanu’s freedom. As demonstrated by the publication of Sunday Igboho, we acknowledge the historical precedents established by the Yoruba leadership, wherein unwavering solidarity and audacious diplomacy paved the road for justice.
As stewards of our cultural legacy, it is our responsibility to take a comparable firm stance, using creative and covert strategies instead of the ineffectual, surface-level approaches that have defined our previous interactions. Ohanaeze Ndigbo will strategically partner with all religious groups operating in Igbo country, whether they are Christian, Muslim, traditional, or Jewish, in order to further this admirable goal.
Throughout 2025, we will designate the final Saturdays of every month as holy occasions for prayer, supplication, and rites. “In order to restore peace throughout our country, we would fervently seek the face of Chukwu Okike Abiama (God Almighty) and pray for divine intervention in the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other prisoners of conscience in the nation.
“I promise to devote myself fully to this cause as the leader entrusted with our people’s voice. In the spirit of true leadership, which is characterized by sacrifices made for the benefit of all people, not by titles. I hereby proclaim that I am willing to forgo my comfort and personal freedom in order to secure Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release. “I humbly take this oath as I assume my role as President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide; it is not just an aspiration,” he said.
In addition to offering himself as a guarantor “for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s cooperation post-release, ready to ensure that his return catalyzes healing and reconciliation rather than discord,” the president of Ohanaeze encouraged President Tinubu to pay attention to the Igbo people’s demands. Fear, which is false in all political calculations, must not be allowed to impede our collective responsibility since, in this case, single action-based justice will not undermine the stability of the Nigerian government.
We face a formidable but not insurmountable challenge. “The support for Kanu’s liberation just emphasizes how important it is to present a united front. Let’s not back down from this admirable endeavor; these sacrifices must be seen as vital steps toward fairness. “I urge all Igbo people, leaders, and good-willed citizens to participate in this fight for justice.
