Pastor S.O. The word “founder” was used by someone. We only have planters; CAC doesn’t use that word. You failed to locate it. According to our history, the church was co-founded by our ancestors in 1918, which makes it 107 years old.
He shed more light on the historical roots of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), emphasizing its origin within the Anglican Church.
“Our roots are in the Anglican Church,” Pastor Oladele explained. “It was within that church that our forebears began earnestly seeking the face of the Lord, asking Him to bring down revival as it was in the days of the Apostles, as recorded in the Book of Acts. They prayed for this revival to be replicated during their own lifetime, and that prayer was eventually answered.”
He noted that the group’s dedication was remarkable, as they prayed continuously for ten years. However, in 1928, something unexpected occurred. “The Lord chose someone entirely outside that prayer group—Joseph Ayo Babalola. He wasn’t part of the prayer group at all, and that’s how God works,” Pastor Oladele added.
Addressing the misconceptions about the origins of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), underscoring that the church was co-founded by its early leaders rather than established by a single individual.
“Some people prayed for revival, but God chose to lay His mighty hands on someone outside that praying group because He is sovereign and can do whatever He likes. That’s the history of the church,” Pastor Oladele stated, emphasizing the collective effort behind the church’s formation.
He went on to identify the key figures regarded as co-founders of the CAC, saying, “You talk of the likes of Pastor I.B. Akinyele, our first president and a former king of Ibadan city; our first general superintendent, Baba Odubanjo; and then Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola. The three of them can be described as the co-founders of the Christ Apostolic Church.”
Pastor Oladele further clarified the distinction between founding and planting within the church. “If you have a plot of land somewhere, start a revival, and your church grows from that effort, you are not a founder. You are only a planter—someone who has planted a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church founded by our forebears. Is that clear?
