In Rivers State, the Police Command has taken down 44-year-old taxi driver Andrew Nwanna. Due to his suspected role in robbing female travelers, he was placed under arrest. Nwanna utilized a car with a personalized license plate to perform the crimes, according to a statement made public Monday, December 31 by spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko.
Police had received multiple reports about the suspects’ attacks on female passengers prior to their capture, Iringe-Koko said. Nwanna robbed a female passenger near Port Harcourt Primary School in the Old GRA neighborhood of the city on October 4 at around 8:00 a.m., the police image maker added.
During the journey, he led the female passenger down Stadium Road, changed the route to the Old GRA, assaulted her, and grabbed her two phones by force. Additionally, on October 10, at approximately 3 p.m., Nwanna picked up a second female passenger at GRA Phase 2’s Tombia Extension on her way to Birabi Street in the city.
The guy pulled over the car close to Skippers Restaurant during the trip, pulled out a knife, and threatened to stab the passenger if she sounded the alarm. She said that he had taken her N850,000 iPhone 13, N1.7 million iPhone 15, N200,000 Redmi 120 phone, and N350,000 worth of AirPods by force. According to the police spokesperson, Nwanna also left the female passenger stranded after taking away her Access Bank debit card, a Bible, and $200 in cash.
After one of Nwanna’s victims reported him to the police, they acted quickly and captured him at Farm Road, Rumuosi, Obio/Apkor. According to Iringe-Koko, Nwanna confessed to his crimes throughout the investigation and named Garba Adamu, a 38-year-old Bureau de Change operator, as his collaborator. He added, “We have also caught Adamu, who has acknowledged buying the phones that were taken from the second victim.”
