Petroleum marketers have lowered the price of the commodity after the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) said that a liter of gasoline would sell for N935 beginning on Monday.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
The Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has lowered the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly referred to as gasoline, from N1,060 to N965 per litre, similar to its other retail locations throughout the nation. As anticipated, drivers flocked to the NNPCL stations in Abuja to take advantage of the “largesse” that the national oil corporation was providing.
Drivers were vying for fuel at the NNPC mega station in Zone 1 Abuja and the one directly across from the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), both of which are near the well-known GSM market.
While some of the drivers were disciplined and followed the line, others were observed cutting lines and giving money to the street kids who guarded the gates at the two retail stations.
The similar thing happened at NNPCL’s retail location in Zone 4, near the National Blood Transfusion Service headquarters, when cars overflowed the road and impeded traffic along the city’s Sheraton Junction-Wuse-Berger axis.
There was no line, though, when the Nigerian Tribune visited the NNPCL retail station near Mararaba U-turn on the constantly congested Abuja-Keffi Expressway. When our correspondent questioned why there was no line at the station, a gas station employee said he thought drivers would still come because they might have been bitten by the Christmas bug and were buying presents for their family.
It was observed that most of the fueling stations our writer visited were selling the goods without a line. In Oyo State, NNPC mega stations and independent marketers continue to sell Premium Motor Spirit, commonly referred to as gasoline, for N950 to N1,030 a liter.
At Bovas in Oke Ijebu, the state capital of Akure, a liter of PMS costs N990. It was discovered that the marketers reduced the price of PMS from N1,050 to N1,100 per liter to between N990 and N1,020 per liter following the announcement of the new pump price by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
Along the same Abuja-Keffi route, Nigerian Tribune also paid visits to independent marketers Total Oil (N1,083), RainOil (N1,050), AYM Shafa (N1,060), BOVAS Oil (N1,060), and Zamson Oil and Gas (N1,060).
Speaking to the Nigerian Tribune, some respondents said they were happy with the NNPCL’s efforts to lower the price but urged the Federal Government, and in particular President Bola Tinubu, the substantive Minister of Petroleum Resources, to think about further fuel price reductions to ease the suffering of Nigerians who have been living paycheck to paycheck since the President removed subsidies in May of last year.
“We appreciate the NNPC’s lowering. But in order for Nigerians to enjoy for once, I want to urge President Bola Tinubu to think about lowering the price. Everyone is unhappy with his severe policies. If he does what is right and makes people’s lives more comfortable, he can make us smile again. According to one respondent who wished to remain anonymous, Nigerians are suffering, the Nigerian Tribune said.
However, despite the NNPCL’s goodwill, the Nigerian Tribune inquiry found that the transportation fare was not lowered. According to some carriers (owners of vehicles, kekes, and okadas) who spoke with our correspondent, the cut had little to no impact on them and that they would need to maintain the fee in order to increase their revenue as Christmas approaches.
Additionally, a Nigerian Tribune correspondent who visited the NNPCL retail locations in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, noted that the price of gasoline had dropped from N1,020 to N1,050 per liter to N960 per liter. Other gas stations in the state have lowered their pump prices, with some independent marketers offering petrol for between N990 and N1,020, according to our correspondents’ reports.
The new pump pricing hasn’t been implemented at the different gas stations our correspondent visited, either. NNPC continues to sell at N950 per liter, but independent traders such as BOVAS and others continue to charge their previous prices, which range from N990 to N1,030 per liter, depending on circumstance. According to a Nigerian Tribune investigation, Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) is currently available for N980 per pump in Kaduna.
The majority of the NNPCL filling stations in the city now charge N980 instead of N1140, according to a visit to the majority of them. Abdulmalik Usman, a driver who visited the NNPCl filling station in Millennium City, stated that while this is a positive step, we are still optimistic that the price would be lowered to one that is affordable. However, the pump prices at independent filling stations in Shema, AA. Rano, and others are N1,080 and N1,010, respectively.
The Nigerian Tribune found that some gas stations in the capital of Ogun State, Abeokuta, had altered the price of gasoline on their meters. The product costs N935 per liter at MRS gas stations in the Abeokuta neighborhoods of Isale Igbein and Omida. The situation was different at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) in the state capital’s Iya Oshin and Madojutimi neighborhoods. In contrast, the commodity was administered by NNPC at Ita Oshin at N1020 and Madojutimi at N1030, respectively.
The price of gasoline per liter has changed in Ekiti due to the influence of big independent fuel marketers. According to information obtained by the Nigerian Tribune from most of the gas stations in Ado-Ekiti and other nearby villages on Monday, the average price has dropped from N1,200 to between N1,000 and N1,050. As of Monday morning, the product is being offered for N1,000 in the NNPC retail locations.
Additionally, it was noted that most stations that opened for business had no line because the goods was available. None of the gas outlets in Osun State paid the N935 pump fee as instructed by IPMAN leadership. For example, NNPC is selling the commodity for N955. The price at Habeeb filling station is N1,060. The NIPCO filling station sells it for N1,060, whereas other filling station owners set a standard price of N990 for drivers.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
