Following the gruesome murder of Mrs. Gloria Peter Ajine, 29, as she was gathering vegetables on her farm in Abeokuta North, Ogun State, the quiet farming village of Ilewo Orile was plunged into sorrow on Wednesday. Gloria, who her family describes as a dedicated and industrious woman, had gone to her farm that afternoon to collect veggies for the January 16 market day.
Unfortunately, she never came home. With tears in his eyes, her distraught husband, Mr. Peter Ajine, described the terrifying finding. “I’m still in shock that she’s gone. “Our family’s light was Gloria,” he remarked. She went to the farm to get food for the market, for our son, and for us. Who would harm her in this way? She wasn’t worthy of dying this way. My heart is broken.
The family disclosed that Gloria was discovered dead in a pool of blood on her farm a few hours later. They said the attackers, who have not been named, had attacked her in a “cold-blooded manner.”
Gloria was the type of person who would brighten any space, he remarked. She worked hard, loved her family, and had big goals for them. The idea that she passed away in such a horrifying manner is intolerable. In order to bring the murderers to justice, the family has urged Ogun State law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation into the crime.
Peter pleaded with the authorities, holding their one-year-old child in his arms. “I lost my best friend, my spouse, and my partner. He sobbed, “Our son lost his mother.” “We are requesting that the police, the administration, and everyone else assist us in identifying the perpetrators of this. Without justice, Gloria’s life cannot end in this manner.
“I need to know why,” he continued. Why would somebody act in this way? She had no adversaries. She worked hard for her family and was a decent woman. My joy has been stolen by whoever did this, and I won’t stop until justice is done. The tragedy has shocked the people of Ilewo Orile, who have described it as an unusual and horrific crime in their quiet neighborhood.
Gloria’s neighbors praised her generosity and hard work in supporting her family. “This is tragic,” remarked neighbor Mrs. Rukayat Oladimeji. Gloria never stopped grinning and working hard. We find it incomprehensible that someone would end her life in this manner.
“We are afraid,” said Mr. Gbenga Adewale, another community member. Anyone could experience this if it could happen to her. To guarantee everyone’s safety in this location, the police must move quickly. In a joint statement, the Ajine and Ochong families denounced the act and called for immediate action. “This murder is tragic for society at large, not just for our family. We urge the Ogun State Police Command to step up their investigation into this crime and make sure the murderers are held accountable,” the statement said.
The family emphasized that such violent acts must not go unpunished and urged the government and human rights organizations to assist them in their pursuit of justice. Omolola Odutola, the public relations officer for the Ogun State Police, promised to get back to the correspondent after gathering additional details regarding the crime. As of the time of writing, she hadn’t done so.
The horrific murder of Mrs. Gloria Peter Ajine has angered two civil rights organizations: the All Nigerian Women League and the Human Rights Advocacy Watch Campaign. Mabel Ndinne and Maureen Fineface, the presidents of the HRAWC and NWJL, signed a joint statement on Friday denouncing the incident and calling it a horrific crime that highlights the terrible insecurity that vulnerable Nigerians, especially women in rural areas, face.
The statement said, “This heinous murder of Mrs. Gloria Peter Ajine is an assault on our humanity as a whole, not just on one family.” “That a woman who was trying to support her family was killed in such a horrifying way is heartbreaking. This tragedy is a reflection of the state’s inability to safeguard its people, especially women, who are frequently more susceptible to violent crimes in our culture.
