But before emergency personnel could put out the fire, it had swiftly spread, destroying ten cars, eight tricycles, and a nearby structure. In the meantime, the fire also damaged a number of nearby buildings, such as a mechanics’ park, a residential home, and a church. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency’s (LASEMA) Permanent Secretary, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, called the situation “catastrophic” in a statement on Wednesday.
According to Dr. Femi, emergency personnel, such as security services and firefighters, put out the fire and stopped additional damage by working nonstop. The incident was terrible. Despite the prompt response of our rescue crews, the fire had already spread quickly, destroying a structure, eight tricycles, and at least ten cars,” he stated.
As the state’s response lines were overloaded with emergency calls, rescue teams—including LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASTMA, the police, and medical teams—were quickly mobilized. A 50,000-liter gasoline truck on Tuesday night toppled while turning at Otedola Bridge in Lagos State, causing an explosion, according to earlier reports from SaharaReporters. SaharaReporters claims that the event happened on Tuesday at approximately 8:18 p.m., although no confirmed casualties have been reported. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) launched a multi-responder plan to deal with the overturned truck and the ensuing fire, according to Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency’s director general.
“Everyone is working to put out the fire. When feasible, drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes,” he said. “We are working to contain the fire,” he continued.
