Senate President Akpabio Finally Break Silence on $15,000 Bribery Allegations

 

Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Nigerian Senate, has flatly denied claims that he paid senators $15,000 to get their support for the proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers State.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

The allegations, which surfaced in the social media space, claimed that Akpabio facilitated the disbursement of $5,000 and $10,000 to senators on consecutive days. However, Akpabio’s media aide, Eseme Eyiboh, described the allegations as a malicious smear campaign designed to tarnish the Senate President’s reputation.

“The allegations are baseless and unfounded,” Eyiboh said. “The Senate President has been hosting breaking-of-fast events for senators, which is a usual practice. Why would he need to bribe his colleagues?”

The controversy surrounding the state of emergency declaration in Rivers State has been met with widespread opposition. Many have accused the government of overstepping its authority, and the allegations of bribery have only added fuel to the fire.
