He addressed the reality of aging. “How can we be talking about death at a birthday celebration? Who are we deceiving? Papa has just joined the club of octogenarians. By the time you’re 80, unless you’re pretending, you know you haven’t just gotten the ticket—you’ve already seen the boarding pass.”
