The Eastern Rail project that would connect Port Harcourt and Maiduguri is something that President Bola Tinubu has said his administration will finish. President Tinubu made the promise on Saturday during his official visit to Enugu State, during a dialogue with leaders from the South-East.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the president further promised that his administration will help the Anambra Basin become a major energy reserve.
Up to 30 billion cubic feet of gas and 1 billion barrels of oil are thought to be contained inside the basin. Former Power Minister Professor Chinedu Nebo and Enugu State native Chris Ugoh made demands during the meeting, and the President listened carefully and promised to handle their issues.
Nebo urged the President to give the completion of the remaining rail connection segments first priority, even as he praised the Tinubu administration for finishing the Port Harcourt to Aba segment of the Eastern rail line. He emphasized how the train link may increase Nigeria’s economic growth and non-oil exports. According to Ugoh, the Anambra Basin has the capacity to sustain industrial feedstocks and electricity generation.
In order to help the South-East and other parts of the nation, such as the North and the Middle Belt, he urged the federal government to develop the resource. In the Police Service Commission (PSC), Onyemauche Nnamani, the National Commissioner for the South-East, encouraged the federal government to adopt contemporary security measures in the area, similar to Enugu State’s patrol cars equipped with surveillance cameras and statewide CCTV system.
“It is inefficient and exposes our security personnel to attacks by non-state actors,” Nnamani said, urging the federal government to lessen the emphasis on the expansion of checkpoints and roadblocks in the area. “It is a work in progress,” President Tinubu assured the crowd in response to the rail line request. Other noteworthy projects from the Enugu State Government House were also virtually commissioned by the president.
The President stated that investments in security will result in quick development during the Command-and-Control Center’s inauguration. “This is a powerful example of what we can do when we work together. It gives me peace of mind that additional money flowing to local and subnational governments is not a waste. It’s for growth.
Thanks to dedicated leaders like Peter Mbah, Enugu is progressing toward the 21st century, reaching new heights, and creating our future now. “Seeing those kids I just met at the Smart Green School will always be in my memory. “I’ve seen cars and devices that use 21st-century technology. “Having that much technology in this house and having it operational is bold. I am aware that you work in the private sector, and we need to encourage more private sector individuals to enter politics in order to boost investment. “Investors will be your friend if you are confident in security and development and provide value for money,” he stated.
President Tinubu also praised the governor, who is a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member, for proving his unwavering dedication to human development. “You are a buddy of mine, regardless of your political affiliation. Abia State’s Alex Otti is likewise doing quite well. Language and birthplace disparities are not the issue.
“The mother tongue is not within any of our control. God made us, and you might be in Lagos, Onitsha, or Enugu.
