This was among the demands made by NEF in a statement issued by Prof. Abubakar Jika Jiddere, NEF Spokesperson, in which the Forum conveyed its sorrow and indignation at the assault and horrific deaths of the 16 tourists. According to the statement, “The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has received the shocking, sad, and deeply disturbing news of the cowardly, extrajudicial, and barbaric killing of innocent Northern hunters who were returning home to celebrate Eid Kabir Sallah and the end of Ramadan with their families in Uromi, Edo State.” It is completely wrong, and we strongly condemn this awful crime.

In the past, the North has put up with a lot of these careless acts of animalism and cannibalism from various Southern Nigerian regions. We have to stop this. The North will respond to this cruel assault on its peaceful people with severe measures. Therefore, the NEF hereby requires the Federal Government and Edo State authorities to take the following urgent steps: The prompt recovery of the victims’ bodies and their respectful transfer to their families for a respectable and appropriate burial in line with their respective religions.

“The apprehension and prosecution of all those accountable for the assault and the heinous murders of the defenseless travelers.” To guarantee complete openness and responsibility, the NEF calls for the public prosecution of the criminals and those who assisted in the crime. The victims’ families should receive the appropriate compensation in accordance with the guidelines set forth by their different religions. “The people and government of Edo State offer an unconditional apology and pledge to make sure that such savage behavior never happens again.”

“The Edo State Government sincerely apologizes to the North for this horrific assault on its citizens. To deter similar acts of violence in the future, the public must witness the punishment of the offenders. “Compliance deadline: Within fourteen (14) days of this release, the NEF requests that the Federal Government and the Edo State Government take tangible, observable actions to meet these demands. If this isn’t done, the North will be forced to do everything in her power to get justice for both her people and the North.

To maintain peace, stability, and the harmonious coexistence of all Nigerians, the Federal Government must make sure that the victims and their families receive justice. “Lastly, as we responsibly pursue this matter with the necessary agencies and authorities of the government, the NEF calls on the good people of Northern Nigeria and the families of the victims to remain calm and patient.”CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
